04 4.8L help with getting more umphhh out of it
so far i cut the intake box to open it up and made it direct flow, i ordered plugs and new wires cause those are shot, (ordered acdelco iridium plugs, and msd 8.5mm wires). Cleaned my throttle body, it helped i can cherp the tires now, but i can not get the thing to brake torque? is it possible to do that with a 2 wd ext cab. any cheap mods i can do. Also i want to put a muffler on it was thinking of a 30 inch glass pack but dont know if i need a 2.5 inlet outlet or a 3 inch inlet outlet. either a glass pack or a cherry bomb extreme muffle or something cheap that sounds good. so let me know what you guys think.

A glass pack really won't give you any more horse power than any decent exhaust system, they are mainly just good for people who enjoy disturbing the peace
. But with the high flow that you get with a glass pack you lose your scavenging so it is no better than a good old fashion magnaflow system!

will buying a actual high flow muffler do anything? i dont feel like buying a cat back system, i mean to me it seems like there is not much to theme besides bigger tubing. Can any one recommend a muffler that sounds good? and adds a little performance.

Mufflers by themself will do nothing at all for you. A motor needs air in and air out. With a high flow muffler you do not get any more air out because you are not getting any more air in. Understand what I am saying

I think your best bet is to trade it for 6.0.

Go with very aggressive gearing, long tube headers with 2.5" collector and true duals with X pipe and 2.5" tubing with a pair of Borla or BAmufflers. In reality that nets 20ish HP to the ground!! If you have the money tune it (you should since you'll get rid of the cats with the exhaust system) Also, throw in some valve bodies in the transmission to get it shifting quicker. The above combination would knock of at least a second in the quarter mile, maybe more

RE: 04 4.8L help with getting more umphhh out of it
Dirtydeeds, thank you for bringing up the gearing! Hardly anyone ever considers it.
Stepping up to a lower ratio will allow you to use more of the torque you already make. Or just get a proper Silverado V8; 5.3 or sixpointoh.
